Is the fiber cable run to my house on the same day as my installation appointment?
The fiber cable is typically delivered to your house 2-4 days prior to your installation. This is called the fiber “drop.” Depending on your neighborhood, it can be delivered from the street to your house with a cable that will be buried (referred to as a “bury drop”) or drawn to your home from a utilities pole (referred as an “aerial drop”). The technicians who deliver the fiber drop will come to your door to inform you why they’re there. However, you don’t need to be home for the drop to be performed.
Important information for fiber drops requiring cable burial: It can take up to 7-10 days after installation for the fiber cable to be fully buried. This is to ensure a proper locate is called in and marked by the city to avoid any damage to existing ground facilities or utilities when the cable is buried. It’s also recommended that you point out or identify any other underground features for the bury team to avoid, like a sprinkler system.
Please note: Due to potential winter weather conditions for cities in our northern markets, cable burial may not take place between the months of December and March, or until weather allows.
